8 Steps Best in Backyards Takes to Prepare Your Shed Site

Step 1: Site Evaluation

Site Evaluation
Once a location has been chosen for your new shed pad, Best in Backyards will make a professional site evaluation. Here we can determine what we need to do to create the best looking and most structurally sound foundation for your new building.

Step 2: Border Installation

Border Installation
Once you have selected where you want your shed pad, our team goes to work and removes the loom (grass) from that area and installs the shed pad borders. Our 6″ x 6″ borders are secured to each other and to the ground with special brackets and stakes.

Step 3: Dirt Compaction

Dirt Compaction
After the borders are set and staked, we use a power compacter to tamp the ground to prevent any settling in the gravel after the shed is placed on the pad. If the dirt under the pad is not compacted, the pad will settle over time leading to an uneven surface for your structure.

Step 4: Manual Dirt Compaction

Manual Dirt Compaction
On top of tamping the dirt with our power compactor, our professional team of installers manually tamps the edges and corners of the pad. This ensures uniform dirt compaction over the entire area!

Step 5: Landscape Fabric

Installing Landscaping Fabric
With every gravel pad we install a layer of landscaping fabric under the gravel. This will create a permanent weed prevention barrier for your shed, giving you one less piece of property to maintain.

Step 6: Fill Borders with Gravel

Border Filled With Gravel
With the ground successfully tamped, leveled and layered with weed fabric, the prepared area is filled with 3/4″ crushed gravel.

Step 7: Gravel Compaction

Using the power compactor, our installation crew now tamps the gravel down. This will take the loose gravel and create a solid and level surface for your shed to use as a foundation for years to come!

Step 8: Install Your New Shed!
